Entered in 1995 … teacher, coach and athletic administrator in Pearl River School District from 1947 to 1982 … athletic director for 22 years … varsity coach of football, baseball, basketball, golf, tennis and volleyball …during his tenure as athletic director, Pearl River won 43 Rockland County championships, 22 titles in Section 9 (Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties), and five New York State championships … was a forerunner in establishing competition by school size … he engineered Pearl River’s move from the Rockland PSAL in 1981 to the Orange County Football League so the Pirates could play against schools similar in enrollment size … that move helped precipitate Rockland’s athletic realignment into Section 1 (with Westchester, Dutchess and Putnam counties) in the 1983-84 school year … he also was a leader in promoting and expanding girls’ interscholastic sports … his professional approach to athletics raised the stature of the Rockland PSAL around the state … as a physical educator he established standards of fitness used throughout New York State … he believed in optimal physical fitness for everyone and used this philosophy to lay the groundwork for a model physical education program in Rockland.
