Albertus Magnus High School Class of 1991

In the 1988-89 season sophomore Jennifer Feeney burst upon the high school basketball scene in style, playing for the Albertus Magnus Falcons under Coach Lorraine Moylan. For three straight years, 1988-89 through 1990-91, she was selected to first team All-League, All-County and All-Section. In 1989-90 and 1990-91 she was named first team All-New York State. In 1990-91 Jen was MVP of the New York State Class B girls’ basketball championship tournament and the New York State Player of the Year for Class B. Also in 1990-91 she was the Rockland Journal-News Athlete of the Year for girls’ basketball.

Jen led her team is scoring all three varsity years and amassed 1,093 career points, which was No. 2 on the all-time Albertus scoring list at that time. The personal recognition was nice, but Jen will be the first to tell you that team accomplishments supersede any individual acclaim. Of the 76 games she played in, the Falcons won 68 of them and lost only 8. Most impor- tantly, in her senior season, 1990-91, she was a member of the first girls’ high school varsity basketball team from Rockland County to win the New York State and Federation Class B championship. It was the first of back-to-back State and Federation crowns for Albertus.

“Jen is one of the finest basketball players I have had the privilege to coach,” says Moylan, Rockland’s career leader in basketball coaching victories with 536. “She had all the qualities you look for in a top-flight player. In my 30 years as a head coach I have seen very few players combine the talent, work ethic and leadership that Jen displayed. One of the greatest gifts that Jen possessed was one of unselfishness, always putting the team ahead of herself. She is the true example of, ‘There is no “I” in team.’ ”

Jen’s family ties to Albertus Magnus were very strong. Her father, James, graduated from Albertus in 1962, and her two sisters and brother are also Falcon alums.

After graduating from Albertus, Jen attended Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J., on a full basketball scholarship. She was a four-year starter and finished her career in 1995 as the fourth- leading scorer with 1,262 points, fifth in career rebounds with 590 and seventh in career assists with 235. While at Rider she was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman, and received All-Conference honors as a sophomore. She graduated from Rider in 1995 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Jen went on to be an assistant coach at Drexel University, where she received her MBA, graduating with a stellar 3.8 GPA. She is currently a fourth-grade teacher residing in Salem, S.C., with her husband, Broward, and children James, Julie and Caroline.
Jen was inducted into the Albertus Magnus High School Hall of Fame in 2004.
