1989 inductee … 1974 Clarkstown South H.S. alumna … came from an athletic family, and made her mark in swimming … U.S national champion, three-mile swim, 1972 … 21 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) titles, nine of them senior championships, and 17 AAU records … four-time All-America at Virginia Commonwealth University … undefeated three of her four collegiate seasons … 1974 New York State scholastic champion, 200-yard individual medley … qualified for 1972 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 IM, while a sophomore at Clarkstown South … had to swim on the boys’ team because Clarkstown South did not yet have a separate girls’ team … swimming against boys, she finished third in the Section 9 (regional) meet, missing qualifying for the state meet by one place … in her 12-year career, she competed in some 700 events, winning 200 gold medals, 85 silvers and 147 bronzes, along with 27 trophies, 8 medallions, 7 plates, 12 plaques and 1 bowl, totaling 487 awards … won six races in one meet in 1978 for Virginia Commonwealth, and was voted the school’s Outstanding Student-Athlete, the first time a woman had ever won the award at VCU … won five Region 1 (Northeast) championships, and 11 New Jersey Senior titles … tremendous work ethic, traveling two hours round-trip to club team practice in New Jersey, and training for two hours, in addition to her high school workouts … Dillon set Rockland County records in the 100- meter butterfly (1:12.4), 400-meter individual medley (5:38.6) and 200-meter breaststroke (3:06.6) … she set Virginia state records in six events: 50-, 100- and 200-yard butterfly and 100-, 200- and 400-yard individual medley.
