Elected in 1994…1944 Haverstraw H.S. graduate…teamed with fellow Hall of Famer Sham Feeney to give the “Bricktowners” a potent one-two punch on the basketball court… Jacobs was a two-time first team All-County performer who led the country in scoring with 17.1 points per game in 1944, back when low-scoring games were the rule…he also was the county’s second-leading scorer in 1943…both years, Haverstraw captured the Rockland PSAL title, with records of 9-1 and 10-0…in one game in 1944, he outscored the entire Spring Valley team with 27 points in a 43-18 win…in football, he made first-team All-County as a receiver and placekicker/punter…he also competed in track and field…after high school, he joined the Army and played service basketball for the Army’s First Division Special Services team in Germany…he earned Army All-Star status on the First Division teama nd made several all-tournament teams…Jacobs went on to an excellent career as a semipro basketball player in Rockland leagues…he played many years for the Letchworth Big Five, a talented local team in the late 40s and 50s as well as with teams such as St. Peter’s, Knights of Columbus and the Spring valley Bengals…Jacobs played semipro football fo the Haverstraw Vets…he is also in the North Rockland Hall of Fame.
