Wil Arietta -
Elected in 1985 ... 1941 Nyack H.S. alumnus ... short of stature (5-foot-3) but not of talent ... All-County athlete in three sports, as a football running back, basketball forward and baseball catcher ... high school batting average surpassed .400 ... made his biggest mark in bowling ... began bowling in high school, putting together a 720 series (255-197-268) as a schoolboy ... his finest hour was March 23, 1949 at the Nyack Bowling Center... competing for the St. George Hotel team in the Nyack Classic League, he rolled games of 255, 258 and 279 for a 792 series ... it was the fifth-highest three-game total in the country recorded by the American Bowling Congress in 1948-49 ... Arietta also starred as a shortstop and catcher for many years in recreation softball, playing for the Nyack Blue Sox of the Rockland County Softball League ... also was very active in junior bowling and Little League girls’ softball ... a 29-year Nanuet resident, he died in 1981.
